The Current hires Amber Hoback as new music director

ST. PAUL, Minn. Aug. 7, 2025 – The Current has announced that Amber Hoback will serve as music director for the station. Hoback started at The Current in June. The station also announced programming changes this summer, including longtime weekend host Mac Wilson officially taking over hosting weekday evenings on The Current.  

Hoback comes to The Current from WNRN, an independent music station based in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she served as music director and midday host. Her radio career stemmed from a stint as part of the street team for KRSH in Santa Rosa, California, while in graduate school at the University of the Pacific. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Christopher Newport University.  

Other roles Hoback has held include promotions, programming director and on-air hosting for KRSH, as well as music director/on-air hosting at WTTS-FM in Indianapolis.  

“I'm delighted to be the new music director at The Current,” said Hoback. “It has been a long-time aspirational career goal of mine to join this programming team, and it's such a thriving music community in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota that the reality is even more fun than I previously imagined. It's my honor to share music discoveries with the listeners of The Current, and I look forward to exploring this beautiful state and getting to know its people. I hope to meet you on the dance floor!” 

At The Current, Hoback will curate the station's music library, review artist submissions to The Current, suggest new music options to The Current’s DJs and oversee known and loved programming like The Chart Show. She will also work alongside station leadership, including Managing Director David Safar and Programming Director Lindsay Kimball,
