Saving Ojibwe...Teaching Native American language

Languages contain more than just words and syntax; they contain the power to verbally express the poetry of feeling and imagery in a manner unique to the language. Ojibwe is the language native to Minnesota, expressing the land we call home in a way so unique, it risks extinction. In 1996, MPR’s Mary Losure reported on the Mille Lacs band of Ojibwe in northern Minnesota’s efforts to teach their children their native tongue and grow a new generation of Ojibwe native speakers.
