Talking Volumes is pleased to announce that Folk Underground will perform during Neil Gaiman's Talking Volumes appearance on February 15, 2004.
(From www.folkunderground.com) Folk Underground is Lorraine Garland on violin and vocals, Trevor Hartman on accordion, drums, horns and vocals, and piano, and Paul Score on guitar and vocals.
Folk Underground came together late in the summer of 2002, in a dressing room after hours, as bands sometimes do. By morning, it was clear they were onto something.
Folk Underground takes on a fine variety of musical styles and territory, along with such subjects as love and death, (often in the same song) and happiness and despair (also often in the same song), with cool melodies and strange lyrics from such diverse songwriters as Neil Gaiman, Jane Yolen, Stephen Merritt, Todd Menton and Emma Bull, with some severely damaged traditional tunes and original songs penned by the band.
Fabulous Lorraine rose to fame with her duo the Flash Girls in the mid '90s. Trevor Hartman has been an actor and musician for many years in the Twin Cities and has a CD collection guaranteed to make you happy. Paul Score is a prominent geneticist who is somewhat bemused to find himself part of a rogue folk trio, but nonetheless pleased with this turn of events.
Folk Underground has recently released a CD, Buried Things on Happy Fun! Records.
