 About Yawo Attivor

Yawo AttivorTalking Volumes is pleased to announce that Yawo Attivor will perform before and after Chimamanda Adichie's Talking Volumes appearance on November 13, 2003.

The wonderfully ironic thing about Yawo is that he was arrested in Togo for writing freedom songs at his university. He was jailed with other students, and only released when Amnesty International got involved, and there was a historic protest in his town, conducted for the first time by his mother and all the women of the area. He sought political asylum here and ended up in Iowa and then the Twin Cities.
