Minnesota Public Radio Elects Mary Brainerd to Board of Trustees

Minnesota Public Radio announced today that Mary Brainerd of HealthPartners, Inc. has been elected to its board of trustees.

Brainerd is president and CEO of HealthPartners, a position she has held since 2002. Prior to joining HealthPartners in 1992, Brainerd held senior level positions with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, including senior vice president and chief marketing officer. She serves on the boards of Minnesota Life /Securian, The Saint Paul Foundation, Greater MSP, Surmodics, and until 2014 she was the chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis.

Brainerd has been recognized for her leadership and business acumen. In 1998, she received the Medal of Distinction from the College of St. Catherine and has twice been named one of the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's Most Influential Women in Business. In 2002, she was awarded the University of St. Thomas Award for Ethical Leadership and named Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal's Executive of the Year in 2007. She is also one of the founding CEOs of the Itasca Project, a group of 40 government, civic, and business leaders working on numerous economic and social issues, including jobs, education, transportation, and income inequality.

Brainerd holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Minnesota and an M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas.
