This Cold Heaven: Seven Seasons in GreenlandThis Cold Heaven: Seven Seasons in Greenland
By Gretel Ehrlich
Pantheon Books, 2001

Author and poet Gretel Ehrlich is one of the great living chroniclers of the wide open spaces of the American West. Her perspective and her health changed when she was hit by lightning. The strike affected her heart, meaning she had to stay in lower altitudes. This got in the way of her desire to, as she puts it, "get above the treeline." She found a way to do that by visiting Greenland. She fell in love with the place, the people, and the culture. Now she has written a book This Cold Heaven: Seven Seasons in Greenland.
