Portraits of AmericaPortraits of America
By Bill Allard
National Geographic Society, 2001

Photographer and author Bill Allard's timing couldn't be better. His book, Portraits of America, hit stores as patriotic feelings swept the nation after the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. Allard is from Minneapolis, but he has traveled the country and the world as a photographer for National Geographic. Portraits of America is filled with pictures that he chose to depict the United States. Most of the shots are from the American West, but there's also a chapter on summer days spent on the lakes of Minnesota.
